Ukraine’s Chief Spy’s Wife Suspected of Poisoning – Reports- Analysis
Marianna Budanova, the wife of the head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), has been hospitalized after allegedly being poisoned, according to reports. Intelligence sources cited by the Babel news website claim that Budanova’s health has deteriorated over a prolonged period, leading to her hospitalization. She has already undergone treatment and is said to be in stable condition. Doctors believe that Budanova may have suffered from heavy metal poisoning, which is not related to everyday life or military affairs. The presence of these substances in her body suggests a deliberate attempt to poison her. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Other Ukrainian news outlets, including UNIAN and Ukrainskaya Pravda, have confirmed Budanova’s poisoning. Sources suggest that she may have been poisoned through food and is currently receiving treatment in a Ukrainian hospital. Ukrainskaya Pravda also reports that several other GUR employees have been diagnosed with heavy metal poisoning. However, Budanova was the first to show symptoms due to her small and light build.
GUR representative Andrey Usov has confirmed Budanova’s poisoning in a statement to US-state broadcaster RFE/RL. He stated that she has been diagnosed with heavy metal poisoning and is currently undergoing treatment. GUR chief Kirill Budanov has mentioned in interviews that his wife has been living with him in his office and working as an adviser to Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko on preventing corruption since June 2021.
