Can Hamas be defeated in the Israel-Gaza War? : Analysis
Following the Hamas attack on October 7th, Israel has made repeated promises to eliminate the group and has launched a strong counteroffensive against the Palestinians. As a result of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, at least 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in the span of almost eight weeks. Gaza City now lies in ruins, with nearly half of the buildings in northern Gaza suffering damage. However, the question remains: is Israel any closer to overthrowing Hamas? And if Hamas is eradicated, who would fill the resulting power vacuum? On a recent episode of “UpFront,” Marc Lamont Hill discusses the future of Gaza with Diana Buttu, the former spokesperson of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and Khaled Elgindy, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute.
