Australia Defeat India to Win Record-Sixth Cricket World Cup

Reading Time (200 word/minute): 2 minutes

Australia secured their sixth victory in the Cricket World Cup with a six-wicket win over India in the final match, ending India’s dominant performance in their home tournament. The match, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, saw Travis Head’s outstanding performance of 137 runs pave the way for Australia’s victory. Partnered with Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out), Head led a remarkable 192-run partnership to successfully chase down the target of 241. This unexpected outcome shocked the heavily partisan crowd and the India team, who previously entered the final as the only undefeated team of the tournament. Head expressed his excitement and gratitude for being part of such a memorable day.

On the other hand, India, led by Rohit Sharma, had a remarkable performance throughout the tournament, winning all 10 of their matches before the final. However, their quest for a third title was halted, leaving them without a global title since the 2013 Champions Trophy. Head sympathized with Sharma, considering him unlucky in this match.

Australia’s victory marked their ninth consecutive win in the tournament, following their initial defeats against India and South Africa. The Indian cricket team previously won the World Cup in 1983 and 2011, with their last major success being the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
