Over €350K raised for delivery driver who intervened in Dublin knife attack – Analysis
The stabbing of three children outside a school in Dublin has led to widespread unrest in the Irish capital. Caio Benicio, a Brazilian food delivery driver who witnessed the attack, used his motorbike helmet to strike the attacker and help stop the rampage. A crowdfunding page called ‘Buy Caio Benicio a Pint’ has raised over €350,000 ($383,000) as of Sunday. Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar applauded Benicio and others who intervened as “the real Irish heroes.” The attacker, who is believed to be of Algerian origin and a naturalized Irish citizen, also sustained serious injuries. The incident resulted in riots in Dublin, with anti-immigration sentiments expressed and numerous businesses vandalized. Benicio was supported by a 17-year-old trainee chef from France, who received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron commending his bravery.
