Ukraine excludes Kissinger from ‘kill list’ : Analysis
Henry Kissinger, the former American Secretary of State, had been added to Ukraine’s ‘Peacemaker’ database, which is known to list individuals regarded as enemies of the state. He was added to the database in May 2022 for supposedly participating in “Russia’s information special operation against Ukraine.” The ‘Peacemaker’ database, an online resource, was created in 2014 and has been involved in various controversies since then, most notably, leaking private information of people it deems as enemies. According to ‘Peacemaker,’ Kissinger had propagated “propaganda” and encouraged the division of Donetsk, Lugansk, and other southern regions from Ukraine, labeling him a “comrade to the Russian authorities’ crimes against Ukraine and its citizens.”
Henry Kissinger, who acted as the US Secretary of State from 1973 to 1977 during the presidencies of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, played a significant part in the development of US relations with the Soviet Union and China. Kissinger remained dynamic even after retiring from office, delivering talks and providing insights on international affairs. He frequently visited China, where he was warmly received by the country’s leadership. Regarding the Ukraine conflict, Kissinger described the West’s offer to provide Kiev a pathway to NATO as a “severe mistake,” precipitating the current hostilities. He suggested last year that Ukraine might forgo its territorial claims to Crimea and grant autonomy to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics — all recognized as Russian territories by Moscow, aiming to halt the violence. But Ukraine’s leadership continues to refuse any territorial concessions to its neighbor, insisting on full sovereignty restoration over all its territories dating back to its 1991 borders.
