Israel’s attacks on Gaza have entered a second day following the expiration of a seven-day ceasefire with Hamas. Qatar and Egypt are currently mediating talks in an attempt to revive the pause in hostilities. The United Nations has expressed concern that the ongoing fighting will exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. UN aid chief Martin Griffiths stated that the people of Gaza have “nowhere safe to go and very little to survive on.” Reports from Al Jazeera indicate that Israeli tanks and gunboats continue to shell the enclave, targeting houses and mosques across the Strip. The Israeli army revealed that it launched over 400 strikes overnight, including in the Khan Younis area, which had seen the evacuation of tens of thousands of civilians in the past month.
